Planning: Land & House Plans

We went land scouting on the way home from Lake City Sunday. Out of ten sections of land, ranging from 1 acre to 206 acres, we narrowed it down to about three that we liked. Of course it's not like we're going to be buying it right now, but if we do happen on a great deal - who knows!?!

As far as house plans go... although we'd both love a courtyard, it's basically impossible to do with a tiny home. I suppose I could sit down and come up with something, but no matter how it's worked I think that a courtyard in the middle will make the house look HUGE. Chris likes the idea of a breeze way, but I don't want a boxed home like those that Kanga offers. I found a lovely compromise! The dogtrout home. It combines a breeze way with a cute cottage/house like feel.

Examples:

Kitchen and living room on one side, bedroom and bathroom on the other. Now, here's my big question, will we keep all doors locked as to not end up with unwanted guests? While I do love this, that is one thing that worries me....

Tiny Houses

Found this just now!

Teeny Tiny Homes

I have always loved the idea of a tiny home, but lately they have me swooning! The cuteness is almost overwhelming!! What's even more exciting is that Chris loves them too. The two of us are beginning our journey to a smaller home, a tiny cottage home on wheels! Our journey will be shared here of course! It's looking more and more like we will be building said home ourselves instead of buying one already built, so expect lots of pictures of the process!

This isn't something that we're expecting to happen over night, we know it's going to take months, once we start, before our house is ready to live in. We also still have our home that will need to be sold. Chris is thinking it could be a few years before we can get what we want to out of it. Here's to hoping it won't take that long!

Both of us would love nothing more than to just get rid of everything and do this, however being the responsible adults that we are, we're going to be taking it one step at a time. On occasion the steps themselves will be teeny tiny. I am please to announce that the first step has been taken, well, the first few steps I should say... first of all we've almost narrowed down our tiny house plans! It's down to two separate plans instead of five! Secondly, Chris made homemade toothpaste! Yup, we're trying to down grade our carbon footprints. Besides, do you know what's in your toothpaste!?!

The next steps are homemade deodorant and soap! Aye, I cannot wait to live more like a mountain woman, to live more off of the land and not depend so much on excessive items from a store. Of course I will still be doing photography even after our "life change" is complete. The hope is that we will both be able to do it full time at some point in the future - along with run a small farm. I can't wait to have chickens again!
